Spinal Stenosis
Spinal Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, which is the tunnel in the vertebral column through which the spinal cord and nerve roots travel, which results in compression of those neural elements.
This can lead to pain anywhere in the spine but most often in the back and/or legs or neck and arms. It can also lead to numbness and weakness. The pain tends to be worse with walking or standing.
Most often, spinal stenosis is caused by osteoarthritis in the spinal joints and/or ligaments and degeneration of the discs in the spine.
Less often, it may be caused by genetic factors.
